Lady Bird Wrap

Interpretations Vol. 8 is here! This year brings you the charming 8th collaboration between Joji Locatelli and Veera Välimäki. This collection includes six themes, six words with two designs inspired by each word, showing a personal take on each of these themes.

In 2021 we continued to work together virtually. We found this to be a great opportunity to show you a bit of our home countries. We did the photoshoots separately in our respective major cities: Helsinki and Buenos Aires.

This geometric wrap is worked using four colors of fingering-weight yarn and has a mesmerizing appearance, where all colors integrate with each other.

In every collection, I try to learn and design something completely new, so I experimented with *slipped stitches* and geometric shapes to create this pattern. The process was a real challenge and my first attempts did not work as I hoped. I got frustrated and, for a moment, thought I would have to give up my idea and design something else. But, after a long night working things out, it all became clear and the project finally flowed.

The Lady Bird wrap is a design I am so proud of. Now that it’s written and the mysteries of this design are solved, it is a stunning (and relatively easy) project. I promise the finished object will be a showstopper.

**SIZES**

ONE SIZE

Finished measurements: 73½” [184 cm] long and 23½” [59 cm] wide rectangle.

**MATERIALS**

Yarn: 5 skeins of Sock by Suburban Stitcher (75% Merino /25% Nylon; 460 yds [437 m]).

2 skeins in color 1 and 1 skein each in colors 2, 3, 4. Approx. 1317 yards [1251 m] of fingering-weight yarn: 568 yards [539 m] in color 1; 338 yards [321 m] in color 2; 205 yards [195 m] in color 3 and 205 yards [195 m] in color 4.

These yardage requirements account for a 10% buffering taking my sample as reference. If you knit exceptionally loose, then you may want to secure a little bit more yardage.

Sample shown in colorways Lady Bird (color 1, Lilac), Cosmopolitan (color 2, purple), Sugarland (color 3, light gray) and Charcoal (color 4, dark gray).

Needles: US 4 [3.5 mm] circular needles, about 24” [60 cm] long, and a 40” [100 cm] long one for the border.

Other: Stitch markers, tapestry needle, blocking pins or wires.

**GAUGE**

18 sts and 34 rows = 4” [10 cm] on US 4 [3.5 mm] needles in garter stitch, after blocking.
