Perennial Socks - 30% off until Sunday! No code needed!
I love knitting socks. In fact, I love making socks so much that I actually set a limit on how many socks I cast on. Otherwise I wouldn’t work much on other projects and I’d end up with drawers and drawers full of them.
Hand-knit socks are like a warm embrace for your feet or for a loved one, and winter or the holiday season are the perfect time of the year to make them as gifts.
Here’s a pattern for a cozy pair of toe-up socks. They are worked using a luxurious worsted weight yarn, but can be worked in more hard-wearing options too.
They feature a beautiful lace pattern with tiny nupps.
The pattern is both charted and written.
SIZES
One size.
To fit a foot circumference of approx. 10” 25 cm.
These socks use a big lace motif that doesn’t easily allow more/less repeats to make a smaller or larger sock.
To adjust the size, you can use finer yarn (DK) and a smaller needle. To make them larger you can use a slightly larger needle, although these socks will fit a women’s Large and most mens’ sizes.
MATERIALS
Yarn: 2 skeins of Myak Baby Yak Medium (100% Baby yak; 125 yards 114 m/ 50g) or 250 yards 228m of worsted weight yarn (main color) and a few yards of contrasting color yarn (you can use any leftovers in a similar weight).
Socks shown in the colorway Moss.Tips for substituting
You can use any worsted or DK yarn in your stash! Most avid sock knitters prefer to use a more hard-wearing yarn for socks, especially one that has some nylon.
I do love the feel of luxury yarn on my feet, though!Needles: US 3 (3.25 mm) dpns or long circular needles for magic loop (my preferred length for magic loop is a 32” 80cm long needle).
Other notions: tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
GAUGE
22 sts and 28 rounds to 4” (10 cm) in Stockinette St on US 3 (3.25 mm) needles.
