Service Description

JUNE 27, 2026 - 10 AM ET A neckline may seem like a small detail, but it has the power to completely change a sweater. It affects style, fit, comfort, and even the personality of the finished garment. Yet many knitters feel locked into whatever neckline a pattern provides. In this live 3-hour Zoom workshop, you'll learn how to confidently modify necklines across a variety of sweater constructions. Through clear explanations, practical examples, and real-world case studies, we'll explore how different necklines are shaped, why certain methods work better than others, and how to adapt existing patterns to match your vision. Whether you'd like to turn a crew neck into a V-neck, lower a neckline that feels too restrictive, create an elegant boat neck, or better understand how short rows can shape the front of a sweater, this workshop will give you the tools to make thoughtful modifications with confidence. By the end of class, you'll understand the mechanics behind neckline shaping and how to apply them to raglan, circular yoke, and set-in sleeve sweaters—allowing you to move beyond simply following instructions and start making design decisions of your own. Topics We'll Explore 🧶 Converting a crew neck raglan into a V-neck 🧶 Raising or lowering crew necklines in set-in sleeve or drop shoulder sweaters 🧶 Modifying V-necks: deeper, shallower, wider, or narrower 🧶 Designing and shaping boat necks in different sweater constructions 🧶 Using short rows to lower front necklines in circular yoke sweaters 🧶 Using short rows to lower front necklines in raglan sweaters 🧶 Enlarging, reducing, raising, and lowering necklines across multiple sweater styles Skill Level Intermediate Students should be comfortable with knit and purl stitches, increases and decreases, casting on and binding off, and knitting in the round. Previous experience knitting at least one sweater is recommended.
